The Value of Exchanging with Timeshare

According to a recent focus group conducted by the timeshare industry, many consumers perceive vacation products as inflexible. However, it is the flexibility that owners say is one of the leading benefits of ownership. Most timeshare products today offer an exchange program that enables you to trade your next timeshare stay for another destination. Many owners use exchange vacations to explore new vacation spots or to celebrate special occasions. Several have shared stories from recent vacations through Interval International and RCI exchange programs. Both Interval and RCI recommend that owners first develop a list of ideal vacation destinations, be flexible with dates of travel, and understand their product type and exchange program in order to best evaluate and use their trading power.

Some owners use their exchange vacation to celebrate a special occasion and others use it to explore new destinations.

•   Bill Mueller of Michigan met his wife Gina during exchanges over a four-week period at several Interval member resorts in South Florida and celebrated their one-year wedding anniversary with an Interval exchange
to Las Vegas.

•   Two couples traded in their U.S.-based home resort stays for back-to-back Interval exchanges in Sydney, Australia and Wanaka, New Zealand.

•   RCI members often post their exchange stories on RCI’s blog. Some of the stories families have shared include a member who sent her parents to the Grand Canyon for the first time to celebrate their 50th anniversary and another feature a family that stayed at a RCI Gold Crown resort on the western side of Baha
in Los Cabos, Mexico.
